Introducing our Business Manager and Social Media Manager Sam MacMahon.
Sam has worked with Clear Day since November 2019, and loves to support clients with content creation and social media scheduling.
Sam’s work background started in admin, with roles for loss adjusters and as a project assistant and PA for the NHS. She then worked as a civil servant and as a visa officer in the British Embassy in Paris.
Sam is married with two young children and lives in Sale, Greater Manchester, just round the corner from our founder Helen Calvert. She loves to knit and garden as well as travel and watch live music. Yoga is her favourite tool for her well-being, and Schitt’s Creek is her current binge-watch of choice!
How did you come to be a part of the Clear Day team Sam?
Helen came up to me at school one day and asked me if I’d like to work a couple of hours per week for Clear Day. I started off just doing social media scheduling, learning from the ground up, bits I could fit in whilst my youngest was napping. It has built up the more time that I have, and I then took part in the Enterprising You scheme. As part of that scheme I did lots of courses on social media including in-depth courses on the individual platforms, especially Instagram and LinkedIn. I learned about social media marketing and SEO, plus I did a course on content creation and how to funnel people to a website.
How do you uphold the Clear Day values of calm, clarity, confidence, focus and progress?
A lot of people say that they find it hard to be consistent on social media as they don’t have the time. They often post in a rush and just chuck something up. I bring them calm because I take away that worry. They know that someone is posting for them regularly.
Many of my clients want to know the types of things they should be posting, so I can provide clarity there. It is also possible for me to help my clients provide more clarity of message on their social media channels, because there is a structure and a strategy to the content I provide for them.
I give my clients the confidence that posts are going up regularly, and that their followers and engagement will grow. They are also confident that I will create content that sounds like them; I have been told I am very good at capturing my clients’ “voice”.
When you are just chucking stuff up now and again it’s hard to remember the big picture. Having a different pair of eyes on your social media, through an audit or power hour, can help you to understand if you are going in the right direction, posting the best types of content, and can help you to focus on what your strategy could be. I always look at whether clients are on the right platforms, are they focusing their energy on where their audience actually is? Otherwise they are wasting a lot of time. A social media audit with me definitely provides focus for clients and helps them to understand where they should be spending their time.
Sometimes clients are not in a position to make progress in their business, due to personal commitments or circumstances, and in those cases having me keeping them visible on social media means that they are in a better position to grow the business at a future date.
Describe your ideal client:
My favourite types of people to work with are people who are clear about what they want and who trust me to run with their ideas. I have a great working relationship with my clients and a good structure in place for me to learn about what they want and for them to make changes to things I suggest. I love working with people who are responsive and who want to be visible, and who know where they want to go with their business. Clear calls to action about where they want people to go from their social media and what they want people to do, that makes creating content so much easier, and makes the content more effective.
As much as I can take away the headache of regular posting and scheduling, my clients have to be willing to engage on social media themselves if they want to see real progress. The clients who get the most out of working with me are the ones who engage with their followers and audience through likes, comments, private messages – just regularly showing up. If you do that alongside regularly scheduled, effective content, then social media can work wonders.
